Nitriva Grow · Research-funded, next market
A new approach to local nitrogen production.
Plants need nitrogen. Today most of it is produced centrally and shipped. Nitriva Grow is developing ways to fix nitrogen from air, using electricity and water, close to where crops grow.
The concept
Nitrogen from the air, into the water.
Air is mostly nitrogen, but in a form plants cannot use. Cold plasma supplies enough energy to break that bond and form nitrogen oxides. Dissolved in water, these become nitrate — a form of nitrogen plants readily take up.
The result is nitrate-enriched water. It is a nitrogen source, not a complete fertiliser: crops still need phosphorus, potassium and other nutrients from established inputs.
Integration
Designed to fit irrigation and fertigation.
We see greenhouses, horticulture and controlled-environment agriculture as natural starting points, where water and nutrients are already dosed precisely.
Greenhouses
Supplementing nitrogen supply within existing nutrient programmes.
Controlled environments
Vertical and indoor farms with tight process control.
Fertigation systems
Interfacing with dosing, monitoring and recirculation equipment.
Validation
What still needs to be proven.
- Agronomic performance
- Crop response compared with conventional nitrogen inputs.
- Nutrient concentration
- Achievable and controllable nitrate levels in practice.
- Energy demand
- Electricity required per unit of nitrogen delivered.
- Economics
- Total cost compared with current supply, site by site.
Nitrate-enriched water is not intended to replace all conventional nutrient inputs. Environmental and economic benefits must be assessed for each application.
Pilot approach
Test it on a real crop, in a real system.
We work with growers to define a crop, a nutrient strategy and measurable targets, then trial a pilot unit alongside your existing setup.
